چکیده

A method for controlling the gastric pH of rabbits to low acidity (pH > 4) by using different antacids was investigated, and the physiological state of rabbits during gastric-acidity control and repeated bioavailability tests was also examined in terms of hemocytological and clinicobiochemical parameters. Neither dried aluminum hydroxide gel (DAH) nor synthetic aluminum silicate (SAS) could elevate the gastric pH to more than 4. In the case of sodium bicarbonate (SBB), the gastric pH increased transiently to around 6 immediately after ingestion of the diet containing SBB and then decreased rapidly to the region of high acidity (pH < 3). On the other hand, magnesium aluminosilicate (MAS) could maintain the gastric pH in the range from 4 to 6 over a

The gastroprotective effect of the hexane extract of the leaves of Sesamum indicum (HESI) was investigated in twenty-eight male rabbits. Gastroprotective activity against necrotizing agent induced ulceration was studied. Gastric wall mucus was determined by standard methods. Anti-secretory activity was determined in twelve pyloric-ligated rabbits. Phytochemical and acute toxicity tests were per...

Prophylactic‎ Ranitidine in Prevention of GI Bleeding in Neonatal Intensive Care Units

Background:Upper gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding remains a problem in critically ill-newborns. The use of H2 blockers, by maintaining gastric pH ³ 4, reduces the risk of stress-ulceration and gastric hemorrhage. This study therefore, has evaluated the effects of short-term prophylactic‎ ranitidine in controlling gastric pH and prevention of GI bleeding in neonates. Methods: This randomized contr...

Effects of 'Olea europea' extract on volume and acidity of carbachol induced gastric secretion, liver and kidney function in rabbits.

BACKGROUND Peptic ulcer is mostly produced due to the over production of gastric acid. This study was undertaken to find out the effects of extract from the leaves of medicinal plant Olea europea (which contains documented natural Calcium channel blocker) on volume and acidity of Carbachol induced gastric section. Its effects were also observed on liver and kidney function. METHODS Thirty rab...
